JAVA:
You now have an internationally respected company in over 40 countries
worldwide. And you offer a variety of products. Would it be fair to say
this has all sprung from one master plant?
Leow:
That's technically accurate. Originally I followed the "tissue culture"
cultivation methods I had learned with orchids to see if the same
principles apply to the Red Mushroom, and I turned out to be right in
my theory. And yes, technically, it did all begin from one good mother
plant.
JAVA:
But you took it much further, didn't you? You also set up some very
original growing techniques.
Leow:
For the time they were, yes. Up to that point Ganoderma Lucidum had
always proved very difficult to grow. And the climate in certain parts of
Asia was all wrong for it. So the Ganoderma crops, once they were
attempted, often failed. That continued to make the Red Mushroom very
expensive as a crop and even more expensive to try to bring to the world
markets. Even in companies that were willing to pay for good health
technology, it was considered a very costly commodity. What I found out
about Malaysia and the Red Mushroom were a couple of things. First of
all, Malaysia was probably the most suitable climate on the planet to
grow the Red mushroom -- about 28 to 30 degrees Celsius [90º
Fahrenheit] year-round. But even so, it needed a special kind of con-
trolled environment, and a regular harvest to have the product come up to its maximum potential potency.
JAVA:
And it had to make it more cost effective to get to market and sell.
Leow:
Oh yes. Much more. And for the very first time really, the Red Mushroom is cost effective to produce. That means we can sell it in
products that everyone can afford. So a lot more people can benefit from it.
JAVA:
By now, others have copied your plantation techniques. Does that bother you?
Leow:
Not at all! If we're going to live up to our company mission, we have to know we are making the world a better place with what we
do. That means we want everyone to have better health and more prosperity. And if we can be the means to that, even better...
Besides, it's not necessarily true that anybody else can copy our plantation techniques. In the first place Gano Excel still has the
largest plantations in the world; and the best tended. And nobody as yet has been able to duplicate our growth media. It is truly a
special mix of perfect bases.
JAVA:
All of your products are Ganoderma based?
Leow:
Ganoderma Lucidum. That's correct.
JAVA:
Why?
Leow:
Of all the natural elements in nature that I have found, Ganoderma Lucidum has the most broad spectrum potentials. It is good for
so many things in the human system. Nothing else seems to be quite as effective and quite so adaptive.
JAVA:
Is that why you combine it with other nutrients?
Leow:
Partly.
JAVA:
Especially coffee and tea.
Leow:
And Chocolate.
JAVA:
Chocolate too (especially for kids). But why the choice of drinks like coffee and tea?
Leow:
Well, we're taking two of the three most popular drinks in the world for one thing. So they're already beverages that everybody drinks.
They're national traditions all over the world. And with our special cultivation and molecule trimming processes, we're actually able to
combine coffee and Ganoderma Lucidum to make a healthier coffee. One that's good for people. And very healthy tea as well. And
that's going to reach a lot of people.
JAVA:
Particularly in the last couple of years, you've grown almost geometrically. And now you've come to the United States and Canada.
Why do you think you'll do well in North America?
Leow:
Because we have established professional credibility. And credibility cuts across all lines. It cuts across language, national borders and
preconceived notions. The products are so effective they virtually sell themselves. And we believe we have a management team in the
U.S. and Canada that shares our vision. They have integrity of purpose, and we've created a true sense of partnership here. We're very
proud of what we've gotten started here. And it's only going to get better.
